Zinnia elegans is the classic tall garden zinnia — large, bold flowers in almost every color except blue, with a long vase life that makes it a florist favorite. Elegans Mix produces a range of bloom forms on tall, sturdy stems (24–36 inches). Blooms continuously all summer when deadheaded. Butterflies, especially monarchs and swallowtails, are strongly attracted. Matures in 60–75 days.
Zinnias are sensitive to powdery mildew — water at soil level, provide good air circulation. Deadhead every few days to keep new blooms coming. Direct sow is better than transplanting — zinnias develop taproots that resent disturbance. Succession sow every 3–4 weeks for continuous color.
